* “Communities of Refuge: Intentional Communities and the Refugee Experience”

Many of the most enduring intentional communities have been founded by refugees. In this presentation, Professor Dan McKanan of Harvard Divinity School will explore the refugee heritage of the Camphill movement, an international network of schools and villages where people with and without developmental disabilities build community together. He will also consider how intentional communities might respond to today’s refugee crisis.

Dr. Dan McKanan is the President of the International Communal Studies Association as well asthe Ralph Waldo Emerson Unitarian Universalist Association Senior Lecturer in Divinity at Harvard Divinity School. He originally researchedCamphill and Catholic Worker networks ofintentional communities.   Among his half-dozen books and many articles is Prophetic Encounters: Religion and the American Radical Tradition (2011).   Come be inspired to think about community in a new way!
